Cutting Floor Joists in Timber Residential Buildings - Be Careful Where It’s Cut - Structural Considerations
Floor trusses make it much easier to run services through a structure while maintaining strength and compliance. Their open-web design allows space for pipes, ducts, and cables minimising the need for cutting holes in floor joists on site. When working with I-joists, always follow AS 1684.2 Clause J3.1 and the manufacturer’s instructions for hole locations and sizes to maintain structural performance.
