Detailing Non-Load-Bearing Wall Connections: Hitch Brackets vs Pryda IWS

Hitch brackets, when installed incorrectly or when nails are driven fully tight, can create rigid connections that don’t allow for vertical movement in floor joists. This often leads to friction, which in turn causes squeaky floors.

As an alternative, Pryda IWS (Internal Wall Screw) systems are an option to specify in connection details in your structural drawings.

They provide a secure fixing method without the same risk of squeaks and are easier to install consistently.
As a structural engineer, what you specify in your design can significantly reduce the risk of things going wrong on site during installation. The simpler the system, the fewer the chances of installation errors and the higher the likelihood of achieving the intended design outcome.
